Perspectives

What was Sherlock's purpose in life?
To solve mysteries or save lives?
What was Mozart's purpose in life?
To make music or mesmerize people?
What was Picasso's purpose in life?
To paint pictures or present perspectives?
What was Wodehouse's purpose in life?
To write well or wallop us with his wit and words of joy?
What was Einstein's purpose in life?
To elucidate the Universe or excite us with God's secrets?
What was Gandhi's purpose in life?
To go the unconventional way or gain freedom for a nation?

I understand by the first sentence that the purpose to which Sherlock dedicated his brain and brawn at some important period of his life is for solving mysteries and saving lives. But that might not be what you meant; you might have meant his whole life. (In childhood he might have used himself to a totally different purpose which is unknown. Also what about his old age?) In such a case, a divine interception is inherent in which it is no longer Sherlock's purpose but the divine entity's purpose. Anybody's purpose in life cannot be more than 'work and wait for result'. What work and how much to wait can only be decided by circumstances beyond his or her control. That is what Longfellow said, Gita says, Sermon on the mount says and many other texts which I have not read would be saying. I dont know whether I make sense or not.

I think I understood at least parts of your comment. :-)

The purpose of life is to do what comes to us naturally. Swadharma. I am sure all those whom you mentioned knew what they were supposed to do. Unfortunately, most of my disciples are stuck up with this question, hardly anyone has an idea what is their swadharma. The interpretation of the ancient texts are not conforming to modern times, hence the problems. nice read. God bless.

KRSNA: I just love that statement of yours - "do what comes to us naturally"! Of course, it must be constructive, right? For example, what if I am a person who gets angry too fast? Will I not need to change that attitude?

And, apologies, your comment had gone into the SPAM folder by mistake. I luckily noticed and recovered it today!

Aw, this was an extremely nice post. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a great article… but what can I say…
I hesitate a whole lot and don't manage to get nearly anything done.
