7 Rules of KM

Dave's updated list of 7 rules of KM has been doing its rounds in blogosphere and twitterworld for almost a month now. It just occurred to me that the second rule could possibly have an addendum (not a rule for knowledge sharing per se but one relevant to KM nevertheless) - *We are sure of what we know and are capable of improving it only when we act on it.*

Hello, The seven rules link you have is not working (showed 404. But, suprisinngly, it did work for me, when I refreshed my browser, forcing the http to catch up). Why not add an alternative path, as well: (consider adding a link to his name), Dave Snowden.

Thanks, MT. Yes, it works when you refresh your browser. Something wrong with the source website I guess. Anyways, I have added a link to the main page as well... :)

Nimmy, I am doing a study on expertise location for the firm I work. Any good pointers (online resources) / material / notes etc on this?

Expertise location! One thing that comes to my mind immediately is the book "Learning to Fly" by Chris Collison and Geoff Parcel. They've got an exclusive chapter (if I remember right) on their expertise location system with screen shots and the like. You could look that up.

Pointers:
- Use the HR database as a starting point instead of building something afresh if you want a quick win
- Make it as simple as possible
- See if it can be used for not just finding people but also capturing the subsequent knowledge exchange. Additionally, see if you can include features involving the rating and popularity of experts
- Explore the possibility of automatically finding experts as opposed to asking them to self-register. this has to be done via blogs/tags/artifact contributions etc
- Explore the possibility of setting up exclusive expertise-area based blogs (different from reactive coordination of the knowledge seeker and provider)

If you have any other specific queries, please feel free to discuss them here or please drop me a mail - nirmala dot pal at gmail dot com
