Signs of InSIGNificance....

Some days are like this....what? Insignificance stares at you so hard that you shrink and shrivel into something smaller, nay non-existent. When things look like this, I guess we must remind ourselves that we represent the universe even if only a dot in it and our full potential is equivalent to that of the universe and all its constituents. The Zen phrase that comes to the mind is "I am nothing. I am everything." Rejoice. Claim your place. It is just a trick to control us lest we become megalomaniacs. Ironically, it is when we become megalomaniacs that we become really insignificant! ;-)

Recently heard a sonet from DVG (Mankuthimmana Kagga)... echoing something like this...
Cannot quote the full sonet, but it means this... you are neither the stem, the root, the branch, the flower or the fruit in this big tree called the universe. You are but a leaf, whose role is to do its duty... but you run the show. So you are rather TRIVIAL AND you are CRUCIAL.

A very significant thought. The Upanishads also state "Zero is Infinity and anything added and subtracted from infinity make no additional significance"

Hari: Thanks so much for sharing that sonnet. Leaves are beautiful but I guess people tend to pay attention to the overall tree or the fruits or the flowers rather than the leaves. But like you say the leaves are so crucial. After all, the growth of the tree/plant is entirely due to the hard work that leaves put in! :-) (But there are a few plants whose leaves are what lend beauty to them...think of those cute bright green leaves sticking out in clusters...!)

Krish: Thanks so much for the comment. The Upanishads quote is thought-provoking! Wonder if that means we have everything that it takes to make a dent in the world, if only we look inward. Also, we don't need anything from the outside world....we may just need the right trigger to awaken what's already inbuilt!

At the end of the day we all want to feel we are more than a speck of sand in the universe.I call it Aham Brahashmi or Eko Aham Dwitiyo Nasti.

Thanks Yayaver....can you elaborate on the second phrase, please?
